Senior Probate Lawyer - Derby

A leading, forward-thinking legal services provider is seeking an experienced Senior Probate Lawyer to take the lead on contentious probate work and help expand a well-regarded Private Client offering. The Opportunity
This is a senior position suited to a probate litigation specialist who enjoys autonomy, business development, and the chance to shape and grow a department.
You will be responsible for managing a caseload involving contentious trusts and probate matters, as well as contributing to the wider growth of the Wills, Trusts & Probate team.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle a range of probate and trust litigation matters, including Court of Protection applications, contested wills, Inheritance Act claims, and related disputes.
- Support ongoing development of the private client offering across the firm's Midlands base.
- Supervise and support junior colleagues and contribute to departmental strategy.
- Maintain compliance with quality and risk management standards.
- Play a proactive role in business development and client relationship management.
- Manage financial performance including billing and cashflow.
- Attend client meetings, including home visits if required, and represent clients in County, High, or Protection Courts when necessary.
About You
We are looking for someone who brings:
- 3+ years' PQE in contentious probate or litigation (more senior applicants welcomed)
- A proven track record of handling contentious trust and probate matters
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to develop lasting client relationships
- Clear, confident communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Familiarity with relevant legislation including TOLATA and Inheritance Act 1975
- A team player with a collaborative attitude and mentoring mindset
- Tech-savvy, organised, and able to manage a varied and sometimes urgent caseload
Desirable (but not essential):
- ACTAPS membership (or working toward)
- Experience with Court of Protection matters
- Demonstrated success in business development or client acquisition
