Senior Validation & Verification Engineer – EC&I
Derby, Warrington or Manchester / Hybrid
£48,000 - £63,000 + Excellent benefits
We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. That’s a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.
We are now recruiting for a Senior Validation & Verification Engineer – EC&I to play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity and safety of our SMR design through rigorous validation and verification activities.
What we’re looking for
As a Senior Validation & Verification Engineer – EC&I, you’ll lead the charge in verifying that our power station designs meet exacting requirements, particularly in the areas of Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I). Working within the Systems Engineering team, you’ll develop and execute verification strategies for some of the most complex, safety-critical, and business-critical systems.
This role is crucial to our mission of offering a delivery-certain solution, using modern engineering tools, analysis, and testing to prove out our designs before construction begins. You’ll collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams, act as an intelligent customer for validation and verification activities, and coach and support other engineers in the team.
- Lead the development of validation and verification strategies for EC&I systems, working closely with design leads and technical specialists.
- Define objectives, requirements, and success criteria for verification activities (e.g., analysis, rig tests) and ensure alignment with executing parties.
- Collate and assess evidence from verification activities, ensuring compliance with design and safety requirements.
- Support the verification of the safety case and contribute to technical reports and regulatory submissions.
- Act as a technical reviewer for verification outputs and coach junior engineers to develop team capability.
- Manage interfaces with other engineering teams and stakeholders to deliver coherent technical solutions.
Confidence can sometimes hold us back from applying for a job. But we'll let you in on a secret: there's no such thing as a 'perfect' candidate. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.
Also, if you are considering a career move or a sector-jump, please get in touch, we welcome applications from people with transferable skills.
Key selection criteria for this role are:
- Significant experience in verification and validation of new products within a highly-regulated, safety-critical industry (nuclear, power generation, oil & gas, process industry, etc.).
- Strong understanding of EC&I systems, including controls, instrumentation, sensors, transducers, electrical power systems, and safety-related systems.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations, codes, and standards.
- Systems engineering mindset, with experience in multi-disciplinary collaboration and requirements management.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical topics clearly in both written and verbal formats.
- Proven ability to coach, mentor, and technically review the work of other engineers.
Training & Degree-level qualification in a relevant technical field.
- Degree-level qualification (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Chartered Engineer status (or actively working towards).
Applicants without a degree who can nevertheless demonstrate suitable knowledge and experience may also be considered.
