Position: Senior Structural Engineer (Progression to Associate)

Location: Derby

Salary: 55,000 - 70,000 DOE + benefits

An established and growing structural engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join their team, with a clear and supported pathway to Associate level. This role offers the opportunity to take technical and project leadership responsibility while developing the commercial, managerial and client-facing skills required for progression.

The successful candidate will work across a diverse portfolio of structural projects, contributing to design delivery, mentoring junior engineers and supporting the wider growth of the business.

Senior Structural Engineer Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural design and delivery of projects across a range of sectors
  • Undertake and oversee detailed structural analysis and design using steel, concrete, timber and masonry.
  • Prepare and review calculations, drawings, reports and specifications in line with British Standards and Eurocodes.
  • Be involved within surveys/ report writing
  • Act as a project lead, coordinating with clients, architects, contractors and other consultants.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Graduate and Project Engineers.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of internal design processes and quality standards.
  • Assist with bids, proposals and client relationship development as part of the Associate progression pathway.

Progression to Associate

This role is specifically designed for a Senior Engineer looking to step into an Associate position within the medium term.

Senior Structural Engineer Requirements

  • Degree-qualified in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Chartered or working towards Chartership (ICE or IStructE).
  • Strong experience in a UK structural engineering consultancy environment.
  • Proven ability to lead projects and manage technical delivery.
  • Competent using industry software (e.g. Tekla Tedds, Robot, ETABS, SCIA, MasterSeries or similar).
  • Excellent communication skills with a proactive, collaborative approach.
