Long Term Futures is seeking a calm, patient, and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support to a Year 4 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Barnet. This role is ideal for someone with prior ASD experience who understands the importance of structure, consistency, and positive relationships in supporting pupil progress.
About the Role
Working closely with the class teacher and SENCo, you will support the pupil both academically and emotionally, helping them access learning and build confidence within the classroom environment. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Providing consistent 1:1 support tailored to the pupil's learning, communication and sensory needs
- Using ASD-friendly strategies such as visual timetables, clear routines and structured prompts
- Supporting learning during English, maths and topic lessons by adapting tasks where required
- Encouraging independence, engagement and positive classroom behaviour
- Supporting social interaction and emotional regulation throughout the school day
- Monitoring progress and feeding back to teaching staff to help refine support strategies
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience supporting pupils with ASD in a primary school setting
- Calm, patient and consistent in approach
- Confident supporting learning and behaviour within KS2
- Strong communication skills and ability to build trusting relationships
- Reliable and committed to supporting progress for the full academic year
