This is an outstanding opportunity to join my client, a trusted, sustainably-minded Multidisciplinary Consultancy looking to broaden their geographical reach as they establish a brand new office location in Scotland. Renowned for lending their expertise to a diverse array of projects across the landscape architecture, planning, and civil engineering fields, they are seeking an enthusiastic, talented Principal Civil Engineer with extensive knowledge of infrastructure design who is willing to win, manage, and successfully deliver a number of challenging projects. You will help build and lead a newly-established team of design professionals, based in the stunning, historical Scottish Capital City of Edinburgh

Responsibilities for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

  • Delivering a number of exciting engineering projects, in a design capacity
  • Managing the day-to-day running of engineering projects, including budgeting, resourcing, scheduling, delivery, and implementation
  • Providing mentorship and support to colleagues throughout their careers, overseeing their Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Managing professional relationships with clients and other stakeholders, across the public and private sectors
  • Preparing, checking, and submitting reports, specifications, drawings, calculations, risk assessments, method statements, and other technical documents
  • Enforcing company policies, procedures, and best practice
  • Upholding the appropriate health and safety standards at all times
  • Contributing to the company's business development strategies, acting as a company representative at client meetings, site visits, etc.

Required skills and experience for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

  • A UK Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Civil Engineering
  • Possess Chartered Status with a relevant, recognised Professional Body
  • Extensive experience of working in a design capacity, in a UK-based consultancy setting
  • Demonstrable experience of working with infrastructure (particularly highways and drainage), housing developments, and energy engineering projects
  • Experience of earthworks design and drainage network modelling
  • Proficient in the use of various software packages (Civils 3D, MicroDrainage, AutoCAD, and others)
  • Considerable experience of writing, checking, and amending a variety of reports for submission
  • Prior experience of leading both projects and people within the sector
  • Experience of managing client and stakeholder relations
  • Outstanding organisation, time management, team leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Hold a full, valid UK driving licence

Desirable skills and experience for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

  • A UK Master's Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Civil Engineering
  • Experience of authoring Flood Risk Assessments
  • Experience of preparing Transport Assessments
  • Experience of working in a public-facing role
