This is a strategic and hands-on role, managing both people and processes to deliver high-quality financial outcomes.This opportunity is ideal for an individual who thrives in a complex environment and enjoys leading process improvement and governance initiatives while supporting a high-performing finance team.The RoleReporting to the Group Financial Controller, you will be responsible for internal and external financial reporting, statutory compliance, and leading a team of financial analysts. You will also collaborate with operational accounting teams, auditors, and senior leadership to drive performance, ensure accuracy, and contribute to the organisation’s strategic goals.Key Responsibilities:
- Lead preparation of statutory accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, and monthly close processes
- Oversee external reporting requirements including TRAC, HESA, and regulatory compliance returns
- Deliver high-quality internal reporting and analytical reviews
- Drive continuous improvements in cashflow forecasting, treasury support, and working capital management
- Manage and mentor a team of financial analysts, embedding a culture of accountability and service excellence
- Act as lead contact for external auditors and advisors
- Monitor and support compliance with funding, grants, and VAT/corporation tax regulations
- Contribute to digital transformation and system improvement projects
Who We’re Looking For:
- Professionally qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA)
- Experience leading the preparation of group financial statements
- Proven ability to manage teams and deliver process change in a large or complex organisation
- Strong understanding of UK financial reporting standards and regulatory frameworks
- Highly analytical with excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Experience in public, academic, or charity sector finance is desirable
