PURPOSE OF ROLE 

On behalf of a leading insurer, we are currently recruiting for a motivated Real Estate Underwriter. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a division focused on delivering tailored underwriting solutions to national and specialist brokers across the UK and international markets. 

The ideal candidates will have a strong background in commercial real estate underwriting, a passion for strategic growth, and the confidence to make independent underwriting decisions in a fast-moving environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Underwrite a varied portfolio of real estate risks to achieve profitable outcomes
  • Assess risk submissions and set pricing and terms aligned with underwriting strategy
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and key stakeholders
  • Contribute to underwriting guidelines, tools, and process improvements
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards
  • Provide real estate underwriting expertise and support product innovation

DAY-TO-DAY 

  • Independently manage and underwrite real estate submissions
  • Work closely with brokers to deliver tailored solutions
  • Track market trends and competitor activity to guide decisions
  • Document and communicate underwriting decisions clearly
  • Support audits, reviews, and performance reporting
  • Attend broker meetings, events, and team sessions as needed

EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in Real Estate or Property Underwriting, ideally within commercial lines
  • Demonstrated ability to manage underwriting portfolios effectively, delivering on growth and profitability targets
  • Knowledge of both UK and international real estate insurance markets and associated risk factors
  • Experience working with or within broker-led distribution models is preferred

SKILLS 

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with a keen eye for risk and opportunity
  • Confident communicator with excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proven relationship-building skills with the ability to influence and negotiate at various levels
  • Self-driven and organised, capable of managing a workload with minimal supervision
  • Commercially astute and comfortable contributing to a high-growth, entrepreneurial environment
  • Willingness to travel as needed for client or team engagement
