MAIN PURPOSE

To support the provision of an effective health & safety service for Exeter City Council on all matters relating to health & safety legislation, corporate policy and procedures to ensure that the organisation meets its statutory health and safety duties.

You will be responsible for providing on the ground advice to services, enabling operational staff to meet their compliance obligations. You will also support Service Leads with the identification of operational risks without taking away accountability for compliance from the operation of the service.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide professional advice, guidance & instruction on health and safety legislation, corporate policy and good practice across a range of disciplines within the organisation.2. Work with Council employees and other stakeholders to influence the development of a positive health and safety culture.3. Undertake inspection, audits, investigations and monitoring to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, corporate policy and procedures.4. Assist in the development of policies and procedures relating to technical activities for health & safety.

Must Have -

  • BSc / diploma in Environmental Health & EHORB Registration and/or relevant level 6 H&S qualification (e.g. NEBOSH National diploma) and experience
  • Practical knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and best practice in the management of Health and Safety work
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, similar applications and the ability to manage databases
  • Asbestos task manual training and P402 (within 12 months of appointment)
