Your new companyWe are seeking a skilled Commercial Contracts Lawyer to join our client as their sole in-house counsel in Exeter. This is a part-time role (22.5 hours per week), offering flexibility without compromising on the quality of work. You will be part of a supportive and professional environment and the client are flexible as to how you work the hours, i.e. you could do 3 full days or 4 or 5 shorter days etc., however you must be able to work on site at our clients' offices in Exeter. This position requires a robust understanding of commercial law and contract negotiation. We are looking for a confident lawyer who can work independently and advise on a variety of matters when needed. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment and will be adept at handling complex legal issues with a high degree of professionalism. You will thrive in an environment where variety and collaboration is the norm and enjoy researching and advising on aspects which are new to you.Your new role As an integral part of the senior management team, you will provide expert legal guidance and support, working closely with various departments, external customers, finance, human resources, and the board, providing pragmatic and commercial advice that drives informed business decisions and safeguards organisational interests.You will be:

  • Providing legal advice and guidance to the board and other company departments.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and other legal documents.
  • Ensuring compliance with legal regulations.
  • Managing litigation and coordinating with external legal counsel as needed and representing the company on debt collection and other legal matters
  • Overseeing corporate governance and ensuring adherence to corporate policies.
  • Advising on mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions.
  • Working with Compliance Manager to ensure full compliance with GDPR regulations
  • Developing and implementing legal strategies to protect the company's interests.

What you'll need to succeedYou will have 5+ years post-qualification experience in the UK, ideally in an in-house commercial counsel or similar business-based legal role, however our client is also happy to hear from private practice lawyers looking to move in house. You will have a strong background in commercial law, contract law, and compliance and exceptional negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to analyse complex legal issues and provide sound legal advice.What you'll get in returnThis is a great opportunity if you are looking to work part-time in-house in a role that offers you flexibility.
