We are working with a Southwest based Local Authority who are looking for a Planning Officer to assist in the provision of the Development Management Service of the Authority.
The purpose of this role to act as Case Officer, processing a range of planning application, pre-applications and appeals and dealing with queries. To also work as part of a team in the delivery of strategically significant developments allocated through the Local Plan.

Set-up: Hybrid
Rate: £38-43 per hour via umbrella
Duration: Initial 4 months, potential extension
Hours: Full-time position
Responsibilities include:
- Manage, assess and provide a professional recommendation in relation to a range of planning applications and other types of formal submissions to the Local Planning Authority and with reference to Development Plan Policies and any other material considerations
- Drafting of recommendations and Committee reports on high volume planning proposals within target timescales
- Negotiations to achieve improvements to planning proposals
- Using professional judgement and take into account policy, legislation, consultee responses, stakeholders and other material considerations during the processing of planning proposals and giving pre-application advice on planning issues and policies
- Preparing appeal statements and rebuttals, liaising with legal advisors and giving evidence at planning appeals
- Attendance as required by the Head of Development Management at Committee meetings, Committee Site Inspections and other similar meetings involving Councillors
Requirements:
- Experience of working within Planning or a planning related field
- Basic knowledge of Development Management processes and procedures
- Familiar with a range of software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams
- Able to work independently on a simpler and less complex caseload with the support and mentoring when needed from managers
- Able to write reports that may be highly involved and cover multiple issues and include the necessity to explain complex and involved planning issues
