Role Overview


Suffolk Highways is seeking a Senior Highways Design Engineer to support the delivery of highway design projects as part of the existing highways design team. The contractor will work under the direction of the client and in accordance with established processes, standards, and programme requirements.



Key Responsibilities


  • Coordinate and deliver highway design outputs in line with agreed programmes

  • Undertake and support technical design checks and reviews

  • Deliver projects to agreed time, cost, and quality expectations

  • Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and sub-consultants

  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental legislation, and internal quality procedures

  • Engage with stakeholders to support the development of project objectives and solutions

  • Provide technical support and guidance to other team members as required


Skills & Experience Required


  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent senior-level highways design experience

  • Extensive experience in highways design, ideally within a Local Authority environment

  • Strong knowledge of UK highway standards including DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20

  • Experience working within structured project teams and governed delivery environments

  • Commercial awareness and experience with NEC contracts

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and relevant design software

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety in design and construction

  • Full UK/EEC driving licence
