Job Title: Assistant Technical Manager

Location: Faversham, Kent

Salary: up to 50,000

Hours: Monday to Friday 8.30am - 5.30pm

Role Summary:

We're looking for an organised and hands on Assistant Technical Manager to support in maintaining food safety, quality and compliance across Faversham the site. You will help ensure that all products meet customer, legal and third-party standards, and play a key role in audits, specifications and continuous improvement projects.

Key responsibilities within your new role would be to:

  • Provide specialist knowledge and guidance to support food safety culture.
  • Ensure all products comply with customer specifications.
  • Manage the QMS ensuring compliance with the latest BRCGS standard and HACCP plans.
  • Manage the periodic calibration of measuring equipment (e.g. probes and scales).
  • Complete allergen rapid testing and ensure allergen samples and swabs are sent to the lab within agreed time frames.
  • Facilitate and manage technical audits including GMP audits.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the site standards.
  • Maintain and update product specifications for customers.
  • Conduct internal audits, hygiene checks and GMP inspections.
  • Manage traceability exercises, allergen management, and raw material risk assessments.
  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure ingredient compliance and documentation is up to date.
  • Conduct routine quality checks on raw materials, WIP and finished products.
  • Manage investigations, identify root causes, implement corrective and preventative actions, and closeouts.
  • Be an active member of the HACCP Team.
  • Record and investigate non-conformances and customer complaints.
  • Ensure accurate labelling and allergen information on packaging.
  • Support product launches and trials from a technical and compliance perspective.
  • Collaborate with the Sales and NPD Teams to ensure product specifications are completed within agreed timescales.
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure high standards of food safety and quality.
  • Manage annual product traceability, withdrawal and recall testing.
  • Contribute as part of the company's management team.

Experience and skills required for this position:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a Technical role.
  • Proven Technical experience within a food manufacturing industry.
  • HACCP L3 Food safety qualification or equivalent.
  • Flexible with a hands-on approach and collaboration abilities.
  • Customer-focused with a commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels.
  • IT literate including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • High standards of numeracy, literacy, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work at pace and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong organisational and attention to detail skills.
