The Role

Aim: To deliver up to 15 hours per week of personalised tuition in English and Maths for a Year 9 student in care. The primary aim is to re-engage the learner with education, build emotional resilience, and support academic progress in a trauma-informed, nurturing manner.Location:Tuition to take place in the student’s current care home placementFrequency: Up to 15 hours per week, ideally spread over 3-5 sessions to maintain consistency and routine. Sessions may be flexible based on the learner’s emotional state and daily routine.Extra Information: The learner has a diagnosis of Disorganised Attachment Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Behaviour, and anxiety-related behaviours linked to early trauma. She presents with low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation. Despite these challenges, she is artistic, kind, eager to please, and enjoys creative, practical tasks. She prefers Maths to English, dislikes raised voices, and benefits from calm, structured approaches. Resources will be provided or agreed in advance with the Virtual School and foster carer.An ideal tutor will be emotionally attuned, patient, and experienced in working with children with SEMH needs and trauma backgrounds. The tutor should deliver engaging, differentiated lessons using visual resources, clear boundaries, and praise to support motivation. Familiarity with therapeutic approaches to learning is highly desirable. They would need a QTS.This provision is a vital step in helping the learner rebuild confidence, develop trust in adults, and work towards her goals of caring for animals and achieving academic success.
