Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Commercial Director the successful candidate will play a crucial role in managing project costs, ensuring that financial resources are used efficiently throughout the lifecycle of construction projects. This position requires strong analytical skills and a thorough understanding of cost control principles to deliver projects on time and within budget. You should be organised and methodical and have the ability to work alongside individuals at different levels and across different disciplines. You will be working on a variety of different projects, such experience in commercial, retail, heritage and/or education construction is vital. You will also be leading multiple projects, so experience as a commercial lead is essential.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects based on detailed analysis of project specifications and drawings.
- Monitor project expenditures and implement cost control measures to ensure financial efficiency.
- Conduct regular site visits to assess progress, verify work completed, and identify any potential issues affecting costs.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to negotiate contracts and resolve disputes related to costs.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all financial transactions related to projects, including invoices, payments, and change orders.
- Provide regular reports on project financial status to stakeholders, highlighting any variances from the budget.
- Assist in the preparation of tender documents and evaluate bids from contractors for accuracy and compliance.
Experience
- A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field with 4 years QS experience/alternatively 7 years experience if you do not hold relevant qualification.
- Proven experience in cost management within the construction industry is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations affecting the industry.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy in calculations.
- Proficiency in using quantity surveying software and tools for cost estimation and project management.
- NEC4 Contract experience.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- A full, valid driving licence and car is required as regional travel is expected. Occasionally, there may be the possibility to work with clients on a national scale, so national travel may be necessary. (car allowance provided)
