Principal Structural Engineer

First People Solutions is recruiting for a leading consulting engineer located in Glasgow. This consultancy has built a strong presence across civil, structural, and transport engineering, they work on a wide range of urban and built-environment project, from buildings and public realm infrastructures to infrastructure, highways, and water.
We're looking for a Principal Structural Engineer to take a central role in delivering high-quality developments spanning residential, education, commercial and regeneration sectors.
The Role
As a Principal Engineer, you will bring technical expertise, leadership and strategic insight to a diverse portfolio of projects, ensuring excellence at every stage.
- Lead and oversee structural engineering design and analysis
- Take full ownership of project delivery: deadlines, outputs, coordination and client communication
- Manage and mentor staff and wider team members, supporting their technical and professional development
- Produce and review high-quality technical reports and drawings
- Use - and guide others in using - industry-standard software
- Drive internal reviews, uphold rigorous checking processes and ensure full compliance
- Contribute to business development, including networking, bid writing and fee proposals
Your Experience & Skills
- A degree in Structural Engineering or equivalent
- Chartered status preferred
- Significant design experience gained within a commercial environment
- Significant experience working within a design engineering consultancy in the UK
- Strong leadership skills and able to manage project delivery
- Experience liaising with new and existing clients, stakeholders, and directors
- Experience mentoring and supporting the professional development of engineers/technicians and wider team
