This is a rare opportunity to join my client, a highly-respected, innovative Multidisciplinary Consultancy looking to broaden their geographical reach as they establish a new office location in Scotland. Renowned for lending their expertise to a wide range of projects across the landscape architecture, planning, and civil engineering fields, they are currently on the lookout for a driven, confident Principal Civil Engineer with extensive knowledge of infrastructure design who is willing to win, manage, and successfully deliver a number of challenging projects. You will have a hand in building and leading a newly-established team of design professionals, based near the vibrant, richly-cultural city of Glasgow.

Responsibilities for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

  • Delivering a number of exciting engineering projects
  • Overseeing the day-to-day running of engineering projects, including budgeting, resourcing, scheduling, and successful delivery
  • Providing mentorship and support to colleagues throughout their careers, overseeing their Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Managing important working relationships with clients and other stakeholders, across the public and private sectors
  • Preparing, checking, and submitting technical documents, including reports, specifications, drawings, calculations, risk assessments, method statements, etc.
  • Enforcing company policies, procedures, and best practice at all times
  • Upholding the appropriate health and safety standards at all times
  • Contributing to the company's business development strategies, acting as a company representative at client meetings, site visits, etc.

Required skills and experience for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

  • A Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Civil Engineering
  • Possess Chartered Status with a relevant, recognised Professional Body
  • Extensive experience of working in a design capacity, within a UK-based consultancy (or Local Authority)
  • Demonstrable experience of working with infrastructure (particularly drainage and highways), housing developments, and energy-based projects
  • Experience of earthworks design and drainage network modelling
  • Proficient in the use of various software packages (Civils 3D, MicroDrainage, AutoCAD, and others)
  • Considerable experience of writing, checking, and amending a variety of reports for submission
  • Prior experience of leading both projects and people within the sector
  • Experience of managing client and stakeholder relations
  • Outstanding organisation, time management, team leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Hold a full, valid UK driving licence

Desirable skills and experience for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

- A Master's Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Civil Engineering (or similar, relevant discipline)

- Experience of authoring Flood Risk Assessments

- Experience of preparing Transport Assessments

- Experience of working in a public-facing role
