First People Solutions are working with a national civil engineering firm, and we are recruiting an experienced and detail-oriented Proposals Writer to join their pre-contracts and business development team.


You will be responsible for producing clear, compelling, and technically accurate proposals, bids, and tender submissions that showcase our capabilities in civil and electrical substation projects.

This role requires strong writing, coordination, and communication skills, as well as the ability to translate complex engineering information into persuasive, client-focused content.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, write, and edit high-quality proposals, tenders, and pre-qualification documents (PQQs).
  • Work closely with engineers, estimators, project managers, and senior leaders to gather technical input and shape winning proposals.
  • Translate complex technical details into clear, concise, and client-focused language.
  • Ensure proposals comply with client requirements, deadlines, and internal quality standards.
  • Maintain and update proposal templates, case studies, and capability statements.
  • Support bid strategy meetings, storyboard sessions, and proposal reviews.
  • Coordinate submission schedules and manage document control for bid materials.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of bid processes, tools, and content libraries.
  • Support post-submission clarifications and presentations where required.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Proven experience in proposal writing, bid coordination, or tender management - ideally within the civil engineering, utilities, or power sector.
  • Strong technical writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences.
  • Familiarity with substation construction, civils works, or electrical infrastructure projects highly desirable.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive, collaborative approach.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience in English, Communications, Engineering, or a related field.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with National Grid, DNOs, or major contractors.
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts, CDM Regulations, and tendering processes in construction.
  • APMP Foundation or equivalent bid management certification.
