Randstad is proud to be supporting a specialist SEN school in Rudgeway, Bristol, in the search for a Head of English to lead and develop their English department.

This is a rare and rewarding opportunity to combine subject leadership with purpose-driven teaching, helping students with a range of learning needs thrive academically and personally.

The Role:

As Head of English, you will:

  • Lead the strategic planning, delivery, and evaluation of the English curriculum across the school.

  • Teach English to students aged 11-16 with a variety of SEN profiles, including autism, ADHD, and moderate learning difficulties.

  • Manage and mentor English staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing department.

  • Adapt and differentiate teaching to meet the individual needs and EHCP targets of each pupil.

  • Monitor student progress and ensure effective assessment and reporting systems are in place.

  • Work closely with SLT to contribute to whole-school improvement and SEN best practice.

Requirements:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - essential

  • Minimum of 7 years' teaching experience, ideally including work in an SEN or inclusive setting

  • Proven track record of raising standards in English education

  • Strong leadership, organisational, and interpersonal skills

  • A deep understanding of the challenges and rewards of working with children with SEND

  • Experience with differentiated instruction and literacy intervention strategies

  • A genuine passion for inclusive education and learner-centred approaches
