We are working with an established supply chain organisation in the Gravesend area who are looking to employ an In-House Legal Counsel permanently.

You must live within a commutable distance and possess strong public law and dispute resolution knowledge.

The package includes a salary of circa £84,000/annum, a car allowance, private healthcare, a great annual leave and pension package as well as other benefits.

The role:

  • Deliver excellent legal solutions according to deadline and to budget.
  • Handle general litigations, including property, landlord/tenant and commercial dispute work.
  • Advise upon and manage judicial review proceedings, and conduct/represent the business at dispute resolution proceedings, including advocacy, arbitrations and mediations
  • Co-ordinating/drafting data protection impact assessments.
  • Drafting and amending internal and external policies and guidance.
  • Preparing and providing training on legal matters.
  • Updating relevant changes in legislation and policy for audit purposes.
  • Managing external Lawyers to include providing instructions for the conduct of claims, approving documentation and ensuring that the external Lawyers deliver: to agreed standards; within defined timescales; to budget; and with added value.
  • Advise on
    • Data protection legislation and best practice
    • Information law, including responses to Environmental Information Requests
    • Governance matters
    • Statutes/statutory instruments
    • Byelaws and directions under the Port of London Act 1968

About you:

  • A qualified Solicitor with 5+ years' experience dealing with dispute resolution, public law or in house legal teams.
  • Hold experience in advising data protection, information laws and drafting commercial contracts.
  • Be able to handle large workloads and to adapt and learn new skills.
  • Possess strong communication and analytical skills, with the ability to deliver to a high standard.
  • Be commercially minded, proactive and regularly take the initiative.
