The Assistant Estimator will support the Estimating Department in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for fabrication and engineering projects. You will work closely with senior estimators, project managers, and procurement to ensure all costings are thorough, well-documented, and aligned with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and submission of detailed cost estimates and tenders.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Liaise with internal departments for material, labour, and production inputs.
- Source and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Prepare quantity take-offs and assess project resource needs.
- Support senior team members in the production of proposals and bid packages.
- Maintain accurate records of costings and support ongoing improvements to the estimating process.
- Attend internal meetings to help transition successful tenders to the project delivery phase.
Requirements
- Previous experience in an estimating, commercial, or technical support role (ideally within fabrication or engineering).
- Basic understanding of fabrication, welding, and manufacturing processes is advantageous.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; experience with estimating software is beneficial.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
