QA/QC Lab Technician

Reed Food & FMCG are seeking a QA/QC Lab Technician to join a dynamic laboratory team in Harlow. This role is crucial for maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety in our food production processes. The successful candidate will be actively involved in supporting the Production, Sales, and Marketing teams by ensuring all quality tests and checks are efficiently executed.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Conduct required tests on wheat and flour to establish quality standards.
  • Efficiently test all collected samples prior to their release for use or sale.
  • Liaise with the Technical Manager to address any deviations from desired quality parameters.
  • Perform practical lab tests on complaint samples and competitors’ samples as needed.
  • Regularly review out-of-date stock and ensure accurate record-keeping of all lab activities.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the work area and ensure proper disposal of waste material.
  • Provide cover for other team members in their absence and assist in both third-party and internal audits.
  • Inspect incoming raw materials and packaging, manage related documentation, and perform routine checks on additive feeders.
  • Conduct spot checks, mini audits of HACCP & Food Safety checks, and specific GMP programmed audits using a tablet.
  • Utilize computer systems for weighbridge operations, stock management, and generation of Certificates of Analysis (COAs).

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various teams.
  • Proficiency in IT, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle are desirable.

  • Comply with legal requirements including GDPR, Equality Act 2010, and Employment Rights Act 1996.
  • Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Laboratory Team Leader or Technical Services Officer.
