Environmental Health Technical Officer / EPO

Hourly Rate: £17.85 – £21.38

Hours: 37 hours per week, full time

Location: Office-based 3 days per week (training will be office based) - Hertfordshire Hatfield

Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated Environmental Health Technical Officer/EPO to join our Public Realm team. This is a temporary assignment providing essential support to a busy Environmental Protection service. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload, support Environmental Health Officers, and help deliver effective enforcement and regulatory action across a wide range of environmental issues.

Key Requirements

Ability to manage a varied workload within a busy Environmental Protection Team, including collecting, collating and securing evidence relating to:

  • Noise and other statutory nuisance
  • Filthy and verminous or severely hoarded premises
  • Rubbish and accumulations
  • Dark smoke and trade waste bonfires
  • Defective drainage
  • Planning and licensing consultations (desirable, not essential)
  • Experience enforcing a wide range of legislation, including:
  • Environmental Protection Act 1990
  • Public Health Act 1936
  • Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949
  • Clean Air Act 1993
  • Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014
  • Building Act 1984
  • Experience serving legal notices, conducting works in default, obtaining warrants and undertaking prosecutions.
  • Ability to support Environmental Health Officers and the wider team with complex, high-risk investigations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications.

Special Conditions

Current driving licence and access to a vehicle with appropriate business insurance.

Ability to undertake monitoring visits outside standard working hours.
