The Role:
So, what will you be doing as a Senior Payroll Specialist?
- Manage the day-to-day processing of UK payrolls, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
- Perform secondary reviews on all payroll inputs to maintain quality and compliance.
- Act as a point of expertise, supporting and guiding less experienced team members.
- Process arrears and off-cycle payrolls in line with the monthly calendar.
- Maintain accurate employee records for new starters, leavers, tax, NI, and pension updates.
- Calculate statutory payments such as SMP, SAP, SSP, SHPP, SPP, and Neonatal Pay.
- Conduct manual gross-to-net calculations and manage payroll adjustments, reversals, and overpayments.
- Handle settlement payments and ensure compliance with ITEPA regulations.
- Perform payroll reconciliations, including FPS validation and reporting accuracy.
- Submit pension reports to third-party providers and assist with post-payroll activities.
- Manage HMRC year-end requirements, including P60s, P11Ds, and PAYE Settlement Agreements.
- Resolve complex payroll anomalies and respond to HMRC queries.
- Maintain records in line with audit and data retention policies.
- Liaise with HR (Total Rewards) and Finance teams to ensure cross-functional alignment.
- Support continuous improvement by maintaining payroll procedures and contributing to scorecard reviews.
- Process stock vesting activities and perform secondary checks.
- Support payroll-related projects, including HCM transitions and tax year-end activities.
- Assist in delivering payroll training and other ad hoc tasks as needed.
What are we looking for in our next Senior Payroll Specialist?
- Demonstrable experience managing large-scale UK payrolls.
- Strong understanding of payroll legislation and statutory payments.
- High attention to detail with experience conducting audits or secondary checks.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
- Excellent communication skills with a collaborative mindset.
- Strong Excel skills and experience with payroll systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Workday, etc.).
- Previous experience with year-end payroll activities and HMRC compliance is essential.
