Learning Support Assistant - Haywards Heath


We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a well-regarded Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in Haywards Heath. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with diverse learning needs in a nurturing, inclusive environment, helping them achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small group support to students with a variety of SEND needs, including ASD, ADHD, SLD, PMLD, and communication difficulties.

  • Assist the class teacher in delivering personalized learning by adapting materials and teaching strategies to suit individual requirements.

  • Collaborate with the SENCO and wider support team to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

  • Promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student confidence, independence, and engagement.

  • Apply effective differentiation and behaviour management strategies to support both academic progress and emotional development.

  • Assist students with personal care and mobility when necessary.

Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs, ideally in a school or specialist setting.

  • A solid understanding of key SEND strategies, such as differentiation, positive behaviour support, and alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton).

  • A patient, caring, and proactive approach, with a strong commitment to inclusion and student wellbeing.

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external professionals.
