Control and Instrumentation Engineer

Location: Buckinghamshire

£35,000 - £40,000 plus company vehicle, healthcare, private pension and 23 days holiday excluding statutory days

Are you passionate about automation, control systems, and cutting-edge water treatment technologies? We are leading the charge in wastewater treatment and recovery systems. We’re looking for a Control and Instrumentation Engineer to bring technical expertise, innovation, and drive to our dynamic team.

What You'll Be Doing

As a C&I Engineer, you'll play a key role in the design, implementation, and automation of our treatment systems. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing P&IDs and PFDs alongside process engineers
  • Designing control philosophies, Cause & Effect Diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, and electrical schematics
  • Performing cable calculations, designing cable schedules, and specifying control panels
  • Selecting instrumentation and creating detailed specs for equipment and components
  • Supporting FAT, commissioning, pilot trials, and field works
  • Participating in Hazop / SIL / Operability Studies at UK and international sites
  • Liaising with internal teams, clients, suppliers, and contractors
  • Creating electrical, instrumentation, and piping drawings using CAD

What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proficient in CAD for:
  • Electrical & instrumentation diagrams
  • P&IDs, equipment layouts, panel layouts, skid layouts
  • Electrical single-line diagrams and connection schematics
  • Deep knowledge of instrumentation (sensors, analyzers, valves, control systems)
  • Experience with AutoCAD, P&ID software, and other engineering tools
  • Familiarity with HAZOP, safety, and quality standards
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • High attention to detail and a proactive approach
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Degree in Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Experience in water/wastewater treatment, preferably in industrial sectors
  • Knowledge of hazardous area design and equipment selection
  • International exposure and additional languages (especially European)
  • Skills in project management tools, procurement, and multi-tasking
  • Commercial awareness and career motivation
