Job Specification: Nightshift Manager – Construction 

 

Location: Heathrow Airport, Hounslow
Contract Type: Contract / Freelance (Can sit outside IR35)
Hours: Nightshift 

 

 

Role Overview

 

The Nightshift Manager will oversee all construction activities during night operations on a major project at Heathrow Airport. As the Nightshift Manager, you will ensure all works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with airport protocols and project standards. This role requires a confident Nightshift Manager who can lead teams within a live aviation environment.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Site Leadership & Coordination

 

  • Lead and manage night-time construction works as the designated Nightshift Manager.

  • Coordinate subcontractors, labour, and suppliers throughout the shift.

  • Conduct briefings and toolbox talks, ensuring the Nightshift Manager communicates risks clearly.

 

Safety, Compliance & Quality

 

  • Ensure the Nightshift Manager enforces project and airport safety procedures at all times.

  • Oversee RAMS briefings and compliance.

  • Conduct safety inspections and uphold quality standards.

 

Logistics & Operational Control

 

  • Manage logistics, deliveries, and access/egress during night works.

  • Ensure the Nightshift Manager maintains control of permit-to-work processes.

  • Liaise with Airport Operations to maintain safe, uninterrupted airport activity.

 

Planning & Reporting

 

  • Track nightshift progress against programme targets.

  • Provide accurate shift reports and updates.

  • Work closely with day teams to ensure seamless handover between Nightshift Manager duties and daytime operations.

 

 

Skills & Experience Required

 

  • Proven experience as a Nightshift Manager, Site Manager, or similar role.

  • Experience in large construction or civil engineering projects, ideally in high-security or live operational environments.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills suitable for a senior Nightshift Manager.

  • Good understanding of construction sequencing, safety protocols, and logistics.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • SMSTS – essential.

  • CSCS Manager card – essential.

  • First Aid at Work – preferred.

  • Ability to obtain an airside pass.

  • Relevant engineering or construction qualification – desirable.

 

 

Additional Requirements

 

  • Consistent ability to work night shifts at Heathrow.

  • Flexibility for weekend or extended shifts.

  • Eligibility for an outside IR35 contract arrangement.
