Role: Mechanical Quantity Surveyor

Location: Kingston Upon Hull (Smith + Nephew Pharmaceutical Site)
Contract Length: Initial 4-month contract - potential of extension
Rate: 430 - 475 per day
Start Date: ASAP
IR35 Status: Outside IR35



Key Responsibilities:

  • Full mechanical quantity surveying across the entire scope of the project, not limited to smaller packages.
  • Accurate measurement and valuation of mechanical works.
  • Management of subcontractor accounts, including procurement, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
  • Liaison with project teams to ensure alignment on scope, progress, and commercial matters.
  • Support cost control and forecasting throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and industry standards.


Required Experience & Skills:

  • Mechanical background essential - ideally with hands-on understanding of mechanical systems in industrial environments.
  • Highly regulated sector experience required - such as life sciences, oil & gas, or petrochemical projects.
  • Proven ability to manage and measure full mechanical scopes, not just isolated packages.
  • Strong experience working with subcontractors, including negotiation and commercial management.
  • Must be proactive, resilient, and self-driven - someone who takes ownership and thrives in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.


Working Arrangements:

  • Primarily site-based in Hull to begin with - candidate must embed into the project and team.
  • After initial onboarding period, 1-2 days remote working per week may be considered depending on performance and project needs.
