Reed are supporting a public sector client to recruit a temporary local taxation officer, initially for a 3 temporary assignment.

This role involves answering enquiries, and creating and updating of accounts, in line with all relevant legislation, to ensure the correct billing and collection of the council tax and business rates charges.

Maintain and update records within the appropriate databases relating to the billing and collection of local taxes. This includes Council Tax, Business Rates and any government grants that may fall within the jurisdiction of the Local Taxation Team

  • Cross checking all available database systems, to verify liability and ensure the collection of Council Tax and Business Rates is done correctly.
  • Keep up to date and be fully conversant with evolving legislation practice and procedure and ensure that all actions are taken in accordance with the Council’s policies and procedure for Council Tax and Business Rates
  • Liaising with all departments of the Council, government departments, external bodies such as Debtors, Enforcement Agents, Collection Agents, and debt advice agencies
  • Prioritising workload to achieve service targets and maximise collection. To ensure a proactive approach is always used where there is a need to contact customers for further information or evidence in support of their account or debt.
