Our client, a well-established and growing accountancy practice, delivers a full range of services including bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, annual accounts, tax returns, and business advisory to a diverse portfolio of SMEs. Renowned for their supportive culture and high professional standards, they combine technical expertise with a personable, client-focused approach. Due to continued growth, they are now seeking a Senior Accountant to play a key role in managing client accounts and mentoring junior staff.

The Senior Accountant will oversee a portfolio of SME clients, preparing accounts, managing tax compliance, and advising on financial matters. You will work closely with the Practice Manager and Directors, supporting the development of the team and ensuring exceptional service delivery. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified or finalist-level accountant seeking a varied and client-facing role in a progressive practice.

Qualified Accountant Job Overview
  • Prepare annual accounts to final stage for partner/director review
  • Complete and review self-assessment tax returns and corporation tax computations
  • Oversee VAT return submissions and ensure compliance with HMRC requirements
  • Provide business and tax advice to clients, highlighting planning opportunities
  • Conduct variance analysis and prepare management reports for clients
  • Liaise with HMRC and other external bodies to resolve client matters
  • Review bookkeeping and accounts work prepared by junior staff, providing feedback and training
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client financial records
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, acting as a trusted adviser
  • Ensure all work is completed to deadline and in line with practice standards
Qualified Accountant Job Requirements
  • ACA/ACCA qualified or finalist (AAT qualified with significant practice experience also considered or QBE)
  • Proven experience in an accountancy practice, including accounts preparation, VAT, and tax compliance
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK accounting and tax rules
  • Skilled in cloud accounting software such as Xero or QuickBooks
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Proactive, client-focused, and committed to delivering high-quality work
  • Experience reviewing the work of junior team members and providing guidance
