MERJE are delighted to be partnered with a leading Leeds based Financial Services organisation in their search for a talented financial Controller.

Reporting into the Head of Finance you  will be responsible for the timely and accurate production of management accounts and related financial MI, budget management, treasury activities, accounts payable/receivable, payroll oversight and compliance with corporate taxes.     

The Finance team has a number of key operational functions including financial reporting, strategic planning, budgetary control, customer and fund billing, project cost control and business case evaluation, corporate treasury and liquidity management, capital management, payroll, corporate taxes, external audit and cost benchmarking and value for money assessments. It is also responsible for supporting first line risk management activities.

Our Ideal candidate will have experience:

  • Working in a finance department with responsibility for management accounts, financial ledgers, banking and payroll.
  • Working across business functions, providing insight and challenge in respect of budget management and cost effectiveness
  • Working knowledge of VAT and payroll related taxes
  • Successful evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Be fully qualified CIMA / ACA / ACCA

Role Specific Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate production of monthly management accounts
  • Day to day responsibility of treasury, purchase, sales and general ledgers and corporate taxes compliance (VAT, PAYE/NIC and corporation tax)  
  • Oversight of the outsourced payroll, ensuring colleagues and HMRC are paid correctly and on time
  • Play a key role in budget management, from preparation, ongoing monitoring and challenging budget managers on financial performance
  • Maintain the integrity of the core financial systems and processes, ensuring procedures are documented, controls are effective and seeking opportunities for operational efficiencies and long term sustainability
  • Management of key financial risks, including identification, mitigation and notification of issues
  • Support the Head of Finance in the delivery of statutory and regulatory reporting, including year-end audit
  • Prepare and present management accounts to budget holders and departments/units, meeting them on a monthly/quarterly basis and supporting the deliverables of a cost effective business
  • Support the management and development of the Assistant Accountant and Apprentice
  • Identify risks in own area of responsibility, recognise risks in all areas of the business and notify any such risks to your People Manager and the Operational Risk Manager
