We are looking for a casualty solicitor (2-6 years PQE) to join our Casualty team in Leeds.

At present, the dedicated team comprises of a Partner, 2 Senior Associates, Associate, Solicitor, 2 Trainees and 2 Paralegals.

As a Solicitor/Associate in our Casualty team, you'll manage a diverse and varied caseload, providing defendant work to insurers on a wide variety of disputes, including those relating to employers liability and public liability within the social care, equine and construction sectors.

You'll support the Head of Department in supervising/delegating to junior team members, subject to relevant experience and achieving departmental goals. The role involves working on a mixed case load of fast track, intermediate and multi-track work primarily on cases funded under legal expenses insurance policies.

What you'll be doing:

* Provide advice to insurers on a wide variety of Employers Liability and Public Liability matters

* Be expected to manage a case load of their own, including recommending reserves and setting strategies under the supervision of a Partner/Senior Associate

* Support the Head of Department with the supervision of paralegals, and in achieving the strategic aims of the department. Achieving the department's fee targets and assisting and enabling others to do so by assisting in the development of junior members of the team

* Set and deliver objectives personally and through the team. Set team objectives in conjunction with Head of Department, monitor performance and progress and provide professional guidance to team members as appropriate * Have a mixed case load fast, intermediate and multi-track EL/PL defendant work

* Embrace the challenge of expanding their knowledge into new areas of law

* Deliver clear, accurate and pragmatic advice based on both the legal and commercial realities of a client's position

* Provide our clients with an efficient and courteous service at all times

* Be expected to deliver on billing and other key performance indicators

* Ensure all files are progressed and maintained within required standards and in line with relevant procedures

* Have the opportunity to develop their understanding of the insurance industry, by undertaking additional qualifications, and the contribution an insurance panel law firm can make to the success of a large insurance company

Our must haves:

* Have existing defendant personal injury litigation experience in both EL/PL and professional liability claims

* Experience in clinical negligence, Animals Act 1971 and policy coverage would be ideal, although not essential

* Have a thorough understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules

* Be accustomed to running their own caseload under appropriate supervision

* Demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills with an ability to prioritise workload

* Have good IT skills, certainly with experience in using Microsoft Office 2010 and case management systems (preferably Partner for Windows)

* Be able to work under pressure

* Deliver against tight deadlines and display key time management skills when prioritising tasks to ensure compliance with deadlines

* Have high attention to detail and accuracy in their work

* Demonstrate first-class client care and communication skills across all levels

* Demonstrate an ability to develop relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

* Have excellent written communication skills

* Be an effective team player, demonstrating a positive 'can do' attitude and displaying co-operative interaction with team members
