An established and growing UK business is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Administrator to join its internal HR and Payroll team. With a workforce of over 1,600 employees and further growth expected, this is a key role in ensuring timely and compliant payroll processing.
Reporting into the Payroll Manager, the successful candidate will have experience managing high-volume, multi-frequency payrolls and be confident navigating complex pay structures. You'll also provide administrative support to the HR team and be a go-to person for payroll-related queries.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing
- Deliver accurate and timely weekly and monthly payrolls for two company entities
- Process a variety of payments, including overtime, bonuses, and other adjustments
- Maintain payroll records, managing employee lifecycle changes (starters, leavers, pay changes)
- Serve as the first point of contact for payroll-related questions from employees and managers
- Resolve discrepancies involving tax, benefits, or pension contributions
- Ensure payroll processes remain compliant with current legislation
- Support audits and maintain up-to-date documentation
- Process onboarding and exit paperwork
- Set up access cards and timekeeping profiles
- Maintain HR systems with accurate employee data
- Generate regular reports on headcount, absence, and other metrics
- Assist with general administration (e.g., filing, ordering supplies)
- Support recruitment-related processes including internal referral schemes and temp-to-perm transitions
- Experience processing in-house payroll (not managed/ outsourced payroll)
- Processing volume payroll - 300+
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and best practices
- Experience working with both salaried and hourly-paid staff
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to cover for the Payroll Manager when required
