Our client, a leading organisation in the UK utilities sector, is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Senior Buyer to join their procurement team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering strategic sourcing initiatives across major infrastructure projects, particularly within the construction and civil engineering space.

About the Role

As a Senior Buyer, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end procurement process for civil and construction services, including framework and standalone tenders. You will work closely with engineering and project teams to influence early engagement, drive commercial value, and support the transition from tactical to strategic procurement practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic sourcing activities across construction and civils categories.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies aligned with business and project goals.
  • Manage framework tenders and call-off processes under UCR and PAA23 (training provided).
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand demand plans and influence procurement timelines.
  • Identify and deliver commercial and operational efficiencies.
  • Support the development of a more strategic procurement culture within the team.
  • Engage with suppliers and stakeholders to ensure value-driven, compliant procurement outcomes.

Skills and Experience

  • Strong experience in procurement, with a focus on construction or civil engineering.
  • Proven track record in strategic sourcing and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience working with M&E, civils, or utilities projects.
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to challenge suppliers constructively.
  • Comfortable working independently and influencing change.
  • Familiarity with NEC/FIDIC contracts is desirable.
  • Experience in regulated environments is beneficial but not essential.
