Customer Software Support Engineer

An established engineering and technology manufacturer based near Lewes, East Sussex, is seeking a Customer Software Support Engineer to join their expanding technical support team. This is a permanent, office-based role supporting clients across the UK and internationally with bespoke software systems used in transport and information technology applications.

Location:         Lewes, East Sussex
Salary:             £38k
Hours:             Monday to Friday, full-time (office-based)

The Role
You’ll work within a small, specialist team providing software and database support to customers using in-house developed platforms. Responsibilities include assisting with technical enquiries, creating and maintaining databases, troubleshooting issues, and offering guidance via phone, email, Teams, and ticketing systems.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded engineer who enjoys problem-solving, software configuration, and customer interaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line technical support on proprietary software applications.
  • Create, test and maintain customer databases and media content.
  • Manage technical queries and tickets using an internal system.
  • Collaborate with engineering, sales, and technical departments.
  • Support colleagues and customers through documentation, guides, and remote sessions.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate technical records for all support cases.

Essential Skills

  • Software or database engineering background.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Confident with Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Organised, self-disciplined and comfortable managing multiple projects.

Desirable

  • Experience with Jira or Microsoft AX.
  • Knowledge of electrical or electronic system design (e.g. wiring diagrams).
  • Prior experience in a customer-facing software support role.
  • Interest in public transport, electronics, or related sectors.
