We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Metal Accountant to support our client in overseeing financial operations related to precious metal accounting on both a physical and unallocated basis. This role is ideal for someone with a strong accounting background and a keen interest in commodities and financial instruments, particularly in the precious metals sector.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Maintain accurate accounting records of physical and unallocated precious metal transactions (e.g., gold, silver, platinum, palladium).
  • Serve as a key point of contact for private, institutional, and retail clients, providing clear and professional communication regarding account activity, reconciliations, and enquiries.
  • Improve, design, and implement reconciliation methodologies of physical inventories and unallocated metal holdings with internal records and external stakeholders, including banks, refineries, and trading partners.
  • Track both company-owned and client-owned metal positions (allocated/unallocated) and ensure proper segregation and reporting.
  • Ensure safe custody and accurate storage of physical metal holdings.
  • Process daily metal movements, transfers, receipts, and settlements in accordance with internal procedures and client agreements.
  • Support audits (internal/external) and regulatory reporting, including adherence to industry standards (e.g., LBMA guidelines).
  • Collaborate with trading, operations, compliance, and management teams to ensure integrity of precious metals transactions, movement, and data.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining internal controls and accounting policies specific to commodities and precious metals.
  • Contribute to systems development and improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency in accounting for metals.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Professional Accountancy qualification is desired. Candidates actively studying toward a recognised Chartered Accountancy qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) are encouraged to apply.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in accounting and financial operations. Experience in commodities or precious metals is preferable but not mandatory.
  • Experience with ERP and accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Sage, etc.).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; knowledge of data reconciliation.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail; ability to work under pressure and meet tight reporting deadlines.
  • Familiarity with UK GAAP rules relating to inventory.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exposure to compliance standards such as AML/KYC within a precious metals context.
