We are currently seeking an experienced Revenues Officer to join a dynamic team within a local authority in Southwark. This is a hybrid role requiring attendance at the Southwark office or within the surrounding area at least two days per week. Occasional home visits may also be required.

Role Overview:The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a personal caseload relating to the administration, billing, collection, and recovery of Council Tax. The primary objective is to reduce arrears and positively influence customer payment behaviour through proactive customer engagement, negotiation, and enforcement measures.

Key duties include:

  • Engaging with customers to verify liabilities, discounts, and exemptions

  • Negotiating affordable and sustainable payment arrangements

  • Applying appropriate recovery actions in line with individual circumstances and legislative requirements

  • Liaising with third parties, including tracing agents and enforcement agents, to facilitate debt recovery

  • Conducting home visits where necessary

  • Representing the authority at court and supporting legal processes

Essential Requirements:

  • Extensive experience with NEC (Northgate Revenues) systems

  • Thorough understanding of Council Tax legislation and recovery procedures

  • Proven track record of handling complex caseloads in a local authority or similar setting

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and investigative skills

  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation and policy effectively

  • Strong IT skills and proficiency in using databases and Microsoft Office applications

Desirable:

  • Previous experience using Civica Collect (Onestep)
