Altum Consulting is partnering with Asthma + Lung UK to in its search for a detail-orientated and motivated Assistant Financial Accountant to help keep their financial operations running smoothly and compliantly. Asthma + Lung UK are dedicated to improving lung health across the UK through research, policy, and support.As an Assistant Financial Accountant, you'll play a key part in their collaborative finance team, supporting the Financial Accountants and Financial Controller. You will help ensure accurate financial record-keeping, support both monthly and year-end processes, and contribute to internal and external financial reporting. This role is ideal for someone beginning their accounting journey and aiming to pursue a CCAB-recognised qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CIPFA).

Key Responsibilities

  • Process purchase orders and supplier invoices in the Purchase-to-Pay system
  • Review and post staff expenses and credit card claims in line with policy
  • Prepare weekly payment runs aligned with supplier credit terms
  • Process incoming income and record on ledgers weekly
  • Prepare accrual, adjustment, and prepayment journals for month-end
  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist with audit preparation and liaise with external auditors
  • Perform checks on financial records for accuracy

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong analytical thinking with attention to detail
  • Clear communicator, both written and verbal
  • Commercial awareness and business acumen
  • Self-motivated with excellent time management
  • Flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general IT systems
  • Experience in a complex financial environment, working to tight deadlines
  • Familiarity with purchase-to-pay systems is desirable
