My client is looking for an interim Data Architect/DBA to support the definition and implementation of its data strategy. The ideal candidate will have a strong background of delivering excellent data solutions (including data process redesign) and a thorough understanding, and experience of using, Microsoft cloud-based data management tools.
The successful candidate must be able to present examples of successful data architecture and design solutions, that have been implemented successfully at previous assignments, preferably in the financial services sector.
The role will involve:
- Establishing the Data Architect role and implementing the supporting governance and controls required to adhere to industry best practice in the management of its data assets
- Playing a leading role in designing a data strategy for the organisation - to include:
- Documenting business teams' future requirements for data management, analytics and reporting
- Reviewing the design of the current Central Data Store (CDS) and assessing whether it can meet the future reporting requirements;
- Assessing the feasibility and desirability of transitioning CDS to a future cloudbased Enterprise Data Warehouse / Data Lake;
- Designing a cohesive data model and data dictionary, considering the current and future reporting requirements
- Collaborating with business and technology stakeholders to assess, agree, plan, implement, and support effective data solutions which optimise the use of technology, reduce operational risk, and deliver stakeholder value
- Overseeing the semantic model that supports Power BI reporting and participating in the governance framework that manages changes to Power BI reports
- Supporting solutions for its in-house systems and its associated business processes
The successful candidate will be experienced in, and highly familiar with, industry best practice methods for managing data assets and the operation of cloud-based data warehouse models to support internal reporting. The successful candidate should be able to navigate through the work quickly and effectively to tight timescales.
In addition, the role will include providing DBA cover for the IT Infrastructure team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background of operational database administration and support in financial services operational environments. The principal responsibilities will include:
- Provide technical support across all SQL Database environments
- Provide operational support for DB issues initiated from Incidents or Changes
- Work on projects and provide effective support to project teams to ensure the smooth transition of new databases and initiatives into the Production environment
