Junior-Mid Level Data Engineer - Financial Services - London/Hybrid (2 days per week) - Up to £70K (DOE)

My client, a fast-growing and innovative Financial Services organisation, is looking for a talented Junior to Mid-Level Data Engineer to join their expanding technology team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their data engineering career while contributing to a company undergoing substantial digital and data transformation.

The successful candidate will be a proactive self-starter with the ability to work independently or collaboratively within a high-performing team. You'll play a crucial role as the bridge between the Data Science function and the core Data Engineering team, helping to translate analytical needs into robust, scalable data infrastructure.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Designing, building, and maintaining robust data ingestion pipelines from various internal and external data sources
  • Developing and managing data workflows to ensure reliable, scalable delivery of high-quality data to internal consumers and live production environments
  • Implementing and maintaining data models, warehouses, and data lakes
  • Working alongside the Data Science team to productionise machine learning models and analytical outputs
  • Optimising data systems and building tools to support data access, quality, and reliability
  • Ensuring data compliance, security, and governance standards are upheld
  • Contributing to architectural discussions and technology selection within the data team
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that support business goals

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 2+ years of professional experience in a Data Engineering role
  • Strong Python programming skills
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks and Apache Spark
  • Proficiency in working with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (preferably Azure or AWS)
  • Some exposure to Data Science or Machine Learning pipelines is desirable
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a curiosity-driven mindset
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • A "leave it better than you found it" attitude - you're someone who takes initiative and continuously looks for ways to improve systems and processes
