Remedy Education is seeking a skilled and compassionate BSL Teaching Assistant to work at an outstanding primary school in Camden, Northwest London. This is a part-time role (2 days per week) where you will be working 1:1 with a child who has complex needs and is profoundly deaf. Your BSL expertise will be essential, as this is the student's primary means of communication.
Key Details:
- Immediate start
- 2 days per week (part-time)
- Location: Camden, Northwest London
- Working hours: 8:30am - 3:30/4:00pm
- BSL Level 2 or above required
- Experience with ASD and complex needs preferred
Your Role Will Involve:
- Providing 1:1 support to a student with complex needs who is hearing impaired.
- Using British Sign Language (BSL) to communicate and support learning.
- Helping the student engage with classroom activities and interact with peers.
- Supporting their emotional, social, and academic development.
- Liaising with teachers, SENCOs, and specialists to ensure consistency in care and progress.
- Relaying BSL communication between the student and non-signing staff or pupils.
What You'll Need to Succeed:
- British Sign Language (BSL) qualification - Level 2 or above
- Experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly ASD and/or hearing impairments
- Confidence in using BSL as a primary communication tool
- Strong interpersonal skills and an empathetic approach
- Ability to adapt to different learning styles and individual needs
- A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
