Are you a graduate with a passion for supporting young people with special educational needs (SEN)?Do you have experience working in a secondary school or supporting individuals with SEN, and want to build a career in education or psychology?
A welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school in Waltham Forest is seeking a calm, committed and emotionally intelligent Teaching Assistant to join their SEN support team from September 2025. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates-particularly those with a background in Psychology-to gain hands-on experience supporting pupils with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges.
About the Role:You will be working across Key Stages 3 and 4, providing targeted support to students with additional needs in both classroom and one-on-one settings. You'll play a key role in helping students overcome barriers to learning and develop confidence, independence and emotional regulation.
Key Responsibilities:

Support students with SEN in lessons and during structured interventions

Help implement individual learning plans under the guidance of the SENCO and teaching staff

Use strategies to support behaviour and emotional needs in a calm and consistent manner

Build trusting relationships with students, offering encouragement and motivation

Monitor and record student progress, sharing insights with the wider pastoral and teaching team

Holds a degree (Psychology or related subjects preferred)

Has experience supporting young people with SEN or SEMH needs

Has worked in a secondary school or youth support setting (e.g. mentoring, tutoring, care)

Is emotionally resilient, patient and confident managing behaviour

Is passionate about inclusion and supporting students who learn differently

A supportive SEN team and experienced teaching staff

Ongoing training and professional development
