Job Title: Court of Protection Paralegal
Location: Lewisham, London
Salary: 25,000 to 30,000 per annum (DOE and interview performance)
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivering a high-quality legal service on all COP matters.
- Assisting in the development and marketing of the COP department.
- Providing guidance and supervision to other COP caseworkers, ensuring that all cases comply with LAA and practice standards.
- Approving COP files for billing and ensuring compliance during audits and peer reviews.
- Maintaining effective communication with clients, external organisations, and colleagues within the firm.
- Providing training to caseworkers on legal procedures, practice changes, and other relevant topics.
- Managing a varied caseload and delivering work to an acceptable professional standard.
- Regularly reviewing legal developments and keeping the team updated on judgments, policies, and legislation.
- Managing chargeable time and billing in line with firm standards.
- Assisting with the preparation of training materials and delivering in-house sessions.
- Liaising with clients, experts, public bodies, and other legal professionals as needed.
- Assisting with marketing and promotional efforts of the firm.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, including report writing.
- Proficient IT skills, especially with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage a caseload effectively.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Understanding of the legal process and ability to work with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience working in a team environment while also managing individual responsibilities.
- Mental Health Law/Court of Protection.
- Familiarity with confidentiality and equal opportunities provisions.
- Experience in Mental Health Law and Court of Protection casework.
- Previous experience in legal aid and private work related to COP.
- Experience in a supervisory role and working with caseworkers.
- Educated to degree level.
- Completed and passed the LPC (Legal Practice Course).
