Our client is seeking a seasoned Head of Underwriting to join their dynamic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to utilise your significant credit approval experience within a financial or insurance institution. You will be responsible for underwriting transactions arising from the Premium Finance business in line with credit risk appetite and policy. Additionally, you will provide wider risk advice to the Premium Finance business including on broker contracts.

What you'll do:

As the Head of Underwriting, you will play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing all aspects of underwriting within the Premium Finance business. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include underwriting transactions, promoting a culture of continuous improvement, leading the provision of an effective underwriting service, and ensuring an effective Quality Assurance process is in place. You will also manage the Insurer and Broker portfolios, engage with Legal for timely delivery of Broker contracts, and contribute to the Shared Services Underwriting team.

  • Underwrite transactions within personal delegated credit authority and make recommendations on facilities to higher approval authorities.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the Bank's Underwriting Shared Services senior management team.
  • Lead the provision of an effective underwriting service of customer facilities, broker facilities and insurer contingent liability risks arising in Premium Finance.
  • Ensure an effective Quality Assurance process is in place which provides constructive feedback to underwriters.
  • Manage the Insurer and Broker portfolios ensuring an up-to-date insurer panel is maintained.
  • Engage with Legal where required to provide timely delivery of Broker contracts within credit and legal risk appetite.
  • Contribute to Shared Services Underwriting team supporting underwriting across teams where required.

The ideal candidate for this Head of Underwriting position brings substantial experience from a financial services environment dealing with Commercial and SME customers. You have a proven track record in credit approval and management as well as leading teams. Your strong analytical, written, and presentational skills set you apart from others. Furthermore, you possess sound knowledge of banking and insurance products and services along with an understanding of security, legal, and documentation risks associated with transactions. Your ability to build good working relationships with both internal and external customers will be key to your success in this role.
