The London Academy for Applied Technology (LAAT), in partnership with Plymouth Marjon University, is inviting expressions of interest from experienced, strategic, and passionate individuals to join our Board of Governors.This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a growing higher education institution dedicated to applied, career-focused learning that transforms lives and meets the evolving needs of industry.

Role OverviewAs a Governor, you will help steer the strategic direction of LAAT, ensuring we remain compliant, financially sustainable, student-focused, and academically excellent. You will support and challenge senior leadership and help shape the institution’s future in line with national standards and community needs.

General Responsibilities• Contribute to the strategic direction, governance, and long-term sustainability of the institution.• Uphold regulatory compliance, financial oversight, and ethical governance.• Represent LAAT externally and support senior leadership through challenge and accountability.

Key Focus Areas• Enhancing the student experience, voice, and wellbeing through meaningful engagement.• Supporting sound financial planning, budgeting, and long-term resource management.• Strengthening oversight of institutional risk and compliance practices.• Promoting high academic standards, student progression, and curriculum quality.• Contributing to strategies that improve learner engagement, attendance, and retention.Each of these areas links directly to the work of standing sub-committees you may contribute to, such as those focused on student matters, academic performance, finance, risk, and engagement.

You should bring:• Strategic leadership or governance experience (education, public or private sector)• A commitment to student success and higher education• Ability to analyse complex issues and contribute constructively• Integrity, independence, and impartial judgement• (Desirable) Experience in education, finance, legal, HR, risk, compliance, or digital innovation• Ideally, the potential applicant must have expertise aligned with one or more key focus areas.
