As the Property & Casualty Underwriting Manager, you’ll have the autonomy to shape and drive underwriting strategy, manage A-rated capacity, and make a real name for yourself in the market.With recently renewed binders and a strong profit-share bonus structure in place, this is a chance to be part of a team that’s lean, sharp, and ready for growth. About my ClientMy client is a specialist MGA backed entirely by A-rated insurers. While they don’t carry the risk themselves, they have the underwriting authority to write business on behalf of their capacity partners. They combine the technical expertise and credibility of a traditional insurer with the flexibility and sharp trading edge of a modern MGA.Their empowered underwriting team is known for its strong broker relationships, tenacity in trading, and niche market expertise across Property Owners, Casualty, and Liability.They live and breathe the MGA world—it’s fast, competitive, and built for those who want to make an impact. Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Strategy: Lead and mentor a team of underwriters, set underwriting strategy, ensure performance against key metrics, and maintain strong loss ratios.
  • Binder & Capacity Management: Day-to-day oversight of binders, managing underwriting within delegated limits, capacity relationships, exposure monitoring, rate movements, and claims trends.
  • Broker Relationship Development: Build, manage, and grow broker and agent relationships. You’ll be out in the market—lunches, golf courses, and pub meetings included.
  • Business Development: Develop and implement action plans for growth across new and existing markets.
  • Operational Management: Ensure efficient underwriting operations, continuous process improvement, and a high-performance culture.
  • Financial Oversight: Monitor underwriting profitability, contribute to budgeting, and ensure strong financial performance.
  • Compliance: Ensure full FCA compliance and robust risk management practices.
  • Team Building: Help attract and nurture top talent, while building a collaborative and high-energy culture.
What We’re Looking For
  • Proven technical underwriting expertise across Property & Casualty lines in the UK commercial market.
  • Strong market reputation with existing broker relationships and experience within delegated authority models.
  • A natural leader with a growth mindset and strong commercial acumen.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced MGA environment.
  • High-level understanding of FCA regulatory compliance.
  • Strategic thinker who’s also hands-on with underwriting decisions and capacity management.
  • Minimum Cert CII (or working towards) preferred.
