Role Overview Assistant General Manager (AGM)

Multi-level, late-night, wet-led music venue Opening Site - Night Club

Salary: £40k-£45k

Were looking for an experienced Assistant General Manager to help lead the opening of our new multi-level, late-night venue in South London. Youll be deeply involved in the day-to-day running of a fast-paced, wet-led, music-focused operation, acting as a visible leader and key support to the General Manager.

This is a hands-on role with genuine progression for someone who wants to build a long-term career in nightlife, as an opening site, the venue will evolve quickly, so we need someone adaptive, calm under pressure and excited by the challenge of shaping how the building operates from day one.

Key Responsibilities

Venue Operations & Leadership

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of a multi-level, music-led venue.
  • Act as a visible presence during peak trading, leading by example.
  • Take full ownership of shifts as Duty Manager/key holder when the GM is off-site.
  • Manage door and queue processes to ensure smooth entry and a strong guest experience.
  • Work closely with security to maintain standards, manage risk and uphold venue policies.

Team Management & Development

  • Lead, support and motivate bar and floor teams during service.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding and ongoing staff training.
  • Help set expectations around service, standards and professionalism.
  • Give clear feedback and support progression within the team.

Compliance, Safety & Welfare

  • Ensure all licensing conditions and venue policies are always adhered to.
  • Keep compliance, health & safety checks and venue logs up to date.
  • Support risk assessments and ensure safe operating practices are followed.
  • Handle guest welfare situations professionally, promptly and in line with company policy.

Service Standards & Ways of Working

  • Deliver and uphold high service standards during high-volume, high-pressure periods.
  • Possess a keen eye for detail in curating aesthetic, atmosphere, mood, and customer experience.
  • Help shape and refine operating procedures as the venue opens and beds in.
  • Support stock management processes, including stock-takes and variance checks.
  • Assist with end-of-night reports, till checks and basic reporting

What Youll Bring

  • Previous AGM (or similar managerial operations) experience in a club or late-night venue.
  • Strong understanding of wet-led operations and busy, high-volume service.
  • Confident with stock-takes, end-of-night reports
  • Basic understanding of P&L, KPIs and cost control.
  • Experience in rota management and team scheduling.
  • Good working knowledge of health & safety and licensing requirements.
  • Proven track record in staff training, coaching and development.
  • Solution-focused mindset with calm, confident decision-making under pressure.
  • Fully flexible to work late nights, weekends and peak seasonal periods.
  • Personal License holder (or willingness to work towards it).
  • Basic first aid training, or willingness to undertake training.
