An outstanding SEND School in Southwark is looking for a dedicated and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team immediately.

About the Role:

In this specialist SEMH setting, you’ll work with students aged between 7 and 16 who face a range of social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Your role will be to support their learning, behaviour, and emotional regulation—helping them re-engage with education in a safe and structured environment.

You Will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support, both in and out of class

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils

  • Help implement behaviour support plans and therapeutic strategies

  • Assist with daily routines and transitions to promote consistency and security

  • Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and pastoral teams

  • Encourage emotional resilience, self-esteem, and positive social skills

What We’re Looking For:

We’re seeking compassionate and proactive individuals who can remain calm under pressure and are committed to helping students succeed—both academically and emotionally.

You’ll Need:

  • A genuine passion for working with young people with SEMH needs

  • Relevant experience workign in Schools, with SEMH or SEN

  • Patience, emotional intelligence, and strong behaviour management skills

  • The ability to de-escalate situations and offer positive reinforcement

  • Experience working with vulnerable young people (formal or informal) is a plus

  • A background in youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, or care is also highly valued
