Operations Manager - Independent School

We are urgently seeking a dedicated Operations Manager to oversee the safe, efficient, and high-quality environment at this prestigious educational institution. This role is crucial for the smooth operation of various departments including Cleaning, Catering, Maintenance, Grounds & Estates, and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety standards. The Operations Manager will report directly to the school principal and play a vital role in the operational success of the school.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • General Management: Oversee the line management of all operational staff and the overall health and safety of the campus. Manage operational budgets, review procedures, and implement new policies.
  • Facilities Management: Ensure all maintenance tasks are completed promptly, manage maintenance staff, and oversee the upkeep of the property and grounds.
  • Project and Financial Oversight: Handle project development, budgetary control, and cost management. Ensure efficient use of resources and implement cost-saving measures without compromising operations.
  • Health & Safety: Maintain safe conditions, implement health and safety policies, conduct risk assessments, and manage security measures across the campus.
  • Transport and Security: Oversee the transport department, ensuring all vehicles are maintained and compliant with legal standards. Manage overall security procedures.
  • Catering and Cleaning: Supervise the catering department to ensure high standards and manage the cleaning staff and contractors to maintain cleanliness across the campus.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage staff and resources efficiently.
  • Proficiency in financial management, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Proven experience in educational compliance and facilities management, with a preference for candidates holding or willing to undertake the NEBOSH National General Certificate.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage various stakeholders including staff, students, and parents.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
