My clients Special Works Department is at the forefront of delivering innovative engineering solutions across a range of retrofit and enhancement projects, primarily sourced from our established maintenance and service contracts. They specialize in high-value, low-volume works focusing on building automation, energy efficiency, and intelligent systems.
Key Projects and Responsibilities
As a Special Works Engineer, you will be involved in delivering diverse engineering projects such as:
- Controller and supervisor upgrades
- Energy efficiency enhancements using smart technology
- Software modifications to optimize system performance
- Minor fit-out works linked to larger construction and refurbishment projects
You will:
- Independently manage and execute projects from start to finish
- Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and third-party contractors
- Interpret and develop control strategies for building management systems (BMS)
- Implement technical upgrades and troubleshoot system faults
- Ensure compliance with safety, technical and regulatory standards
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the department’s processes and services
Training & Development
My client provides comprehensive training on the latest BMS platforms and smart technology solutions. You will have clear opportunities to develop both technically and professionally, including pathways into design, project management, or senior engineering roles.

Experience and Qualifications
Essential:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the BMS industry, with a focus on Trend and/or Tridium systems
- Proven experience in commissioning, software modifications, and control strategy implementation
- Full UK driving licence (or equivalent if applicable)
Desirable:
- Background in mechanical or electrical engineering
- Candidates with less than 3 years of BMS experience may be considered if supported by strong mechanical/electrical knowledge and practical field experience
