A brand new vacancy for a Principal Mechanical Engineer with an incredible scientific instrumentation start-up has become available, based in West London (W12). The Principal Mechanical Engineer will lead a team responsible for the design and build of various components, sub-assemblies and prototypes for their range of leading biosensing instruments.

  • Design, simulate, build & test mechanical components and prototype systems.
  • Develop microfluidic, electromechanical, and thermal management solutions.
  • Conduct structural, thermal, and fluidic dynamics analysis to optimise performance.
  • Work to integrate mechanical designs with electronics, optics and fluidics.
  • Support product development from concept through to manufacturing including design for manufacturability (DfM) and design for assembly (DfA).
  • Develop test methods and execute experiments to validate mechanical designs and system performance.
  • Interface with vendors and manufacturing partners to ensure high quality production of products incorporating mechanical components.
  • Document designs, processes and test results in compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

The ideal Principal Mechanical Engineer will hold a Master's Degree and have extensive experience in a similar role, ideally within the scientific instrumentation industry. Experience using mechanical, thermal and fluid analysis tools (FEA, CFD, thermal modelling) e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL is essential whilst experience in microfluidics and/or microfabrication would be highly advantageous.
